Blog Day 3

Today we watched an interesting video from Ted.  The video was presented by Sugata Mutra , and he was questioning if children can learn without direct instruction from a teacher.  He created various experiments with kids around the world and their use of technology.  It was really interesting how all the children, no matter their technological experience level or spoken language could understand various concepts that were presented to them.  We discussed in class how groups of people seem to learn better from each other than if they were sitting alone with their own computer.  I believe that a huge part of learning and retaining the information is through collaboration and team work.  Students are more likely to remember information if there is a context and discussion around their exploration.
After we watched the Ted video, Jean showed us the application called Jing.  This is a free application that can take screen shots and videos. I believe that this application was really user friendly and that my students could use this in their presentations.  I could also use it to demonstrate various ideas to my class and post it on D2L for them to revisit.
After our Jing demonstration the class was asked to create a Wikispace account and insert the two activities that we did yesterday during our class.  This was a learning experience for me because I have never had a Wikispace account and I hate to admit but I had never heard of Wikispaces before ssshhhh.
Once again, today I learn a lot that I can continue using.  Thanks for the useful information.
