Blog #9

Hi Jean,

I really enjoyed your class and came away with a wealth of practical resources that I can use with my students.  Thanks for all your help.

Could you please send my mark to kebechard@gmail.com

Thanks, happy sailing. :)

Blog day 8

Today in class we discussed language labs and forums.  Both ideas were shown to us and we discussed the application for each.  I believe that I would be able to use the language lab for my gr. 7 FSL class and I think it would be very useful.  I can see the practicality of this application because it is hard to get the students to speak in class because they seem to be a bit self conscious at first.  Also, it would help me mark their pronciation because I can play the recording over and over if I need to.

On a side note, Jean also showed us the site Dialogus, which I immediately forwarded to the Etudes Social teacher at my school because I think it would be an interesting site for her to explore with her students.

The rest of the class we started working on our final project.  I easily made my Photo Booth recording but it took me 10 minutes to figure out how to save it to my desk top.  I am more familiar with a PC so I find the Mac a little difficult to use at times.  I ended the class by uploading our Photo Booth video to my Wikispace.  Thanks for the help today.

Blog day 7

Today we began our class by finishing out imovie. My group and I were progressing nicely, until we started having a problem with our transitions between scenes. I am not too sure what happened but we had to restart our movie.  After that little glitch, the rest of the process when pretty smoothly.

After finishing and posting our movie onto our blogs we switched topics to exploring the Smartboard. We were discussing differentiation and diversification and the differences between the two and how the Smart board can be used for both if a teacher knows their students.  Jean showed us Note Book and many of its applications which I found very useful because I was given a Smartboard last year but I had no PD to show me how it works.  I had to figure most of it our myself since there was no support given to me. I still have only limited use for it but the applications that were shown to us today were useful.  Jean showed us Smartexchange, which I sign up for so that I can start using lessons from it next year. Thanks for showing me some practical applications on the Smartboard.

TPACK Assignment

TPACK- Assignment ( Kelly, Sarah and Charlotte)

General Outcome 2: Indentify and explain conflict and discuss how it develops and may be resolved.

Goal:  The goal for this assignment is to write a short story focusing on conflict.  They will create the story in pairs or in small groups. Once the story is written they will trade their stories with another group for peer editing purposes.  Once the editing is complete they will present their story in a picture book form.

Technology: To write the story the groups will be asked to use Titanpad or Google Doc as a cooperative process, this will enable each student to contribute equally.  For the editing aspect, the other peer group can edit and save the various changes to the document and the group can see the changes that were made.  Once the story is completed the groups can choose to either create a story book project in Flipsnack or they can take digital pictures to visually show the images of their story and use Windows Movie Maker to create a video.  They will use the audio to record their story for the audience to hear as they view the photographs.

Blog day 6

Today, we explored how to teach using lessons for students to watch at home.  We discussed how times are changing and now to use class time more wisely, it is a good idea to have students watch the lesson at home and do the practice in class.  To reinforce this idea, we watched two videos on line that demonstrated language lessons.  This seems like a much more efficient way to teach students because it will enable you, the teacher to cover more materials in class.
After seeing and talking about changing the way we teach languages, we then started working on a video.  We were given our own Macs to use to create a video on teaching a concept in another language.  We then went into groups to film a short segment on teachign introductions and greetings in French.  When we returned to class we imported our video clips to our Macs and started to work on putting our videos together.  Unfortunately, I did not get too far and need to continue tomorrow.

Blog day 5

Today we discussed the role of technology and the curriculum and how the objectives need to be decided before the technology can be applied.  The progression of having the technology, then choosing something to do with it seems a bit backward.  We looked at the Venn diagram for TPACK and discussed its purpose.

We then spent the rest of the class experimenting with various web sites that we could use in our classrooms.  We were exposed to Wall Wisher, Pic nik, Symbaloo and Prezi.  I am not too sure if I would use Wall Wisher, just for the simple fact that I could not seem to get it to work in class as we were experimenting with it.  I did, on the other had like Pic nik, Symbaloo and Prezi.  I could immediately think of lessons and outcome from the curriculum that I could teach using all of these sites. I think my junior hight students would go crazy over these site. The Prezi site would be so much more enjoyable for student to watch and to create for their own presentations.  This site seems so much more creative then the simple Power Point templates.
Now, you told us to write less so I will stop writing now, without mentioning how excited I was when I saw the Cooltoolsforschool sites for writing.
